The Craft of Continuity

La restauración de Ludus Vitalis nunca buscó ser una simple reconstrucción. Para que el auto alcanzara la perfección, gran parte del trabajo debía realizarse en Alemania, por expertos que conocen cada vibración del motor flat six, cada milímetro del acero de Stuttgart. Pero lo que quedó para nosotros fue, quizá, lo más significativo: crear todo aquello que elevaría el tributo hasta el cielo.

The restoration of Ludus Vitalis never aimed to be a mere reconstruction. For the car to reach perfection, much of the work had to occur in Germany, by experts who know every vibration of the flat-six engine, every millimeter of Stuttgart steel. But what remained for us was perhaps the most meaningful: creating all that would elevate the tribute to the heavens.

En ese proceso descubrí nuevos oficios, cada uno con su propio lenguaje de paciencia y devoción. Construí un juego de equipaje inspirado en el interior del auto, cosiendo a mano cuero y alcántara en un tejido que parecía respirar. Jamás me imaginé frente a una máquina de coser, y sin embargo ahí estaba, uniendo no sólo materiales, sino recuerdos.

In that process, I discovered new crafts, each with its own dialect of patience and devotion. I built a set of luggage inspired by the car's interior, hand-stitching leather and Alcantara into a fabric that seemed to breathe. I'd never pictured myself at a sewing machine, yet there I was, joining not just materials, but memories.

Diseñamos cascos personalizados con espíritu vintage, una chaqueta con los emblemas de Ludus Vitalis, y adquirí un conjunto completo de herramientas para trabajar el cuero —instrumentos de precisión y constancia. De ahí nacieron interiores marcados por la huella humana: tablero, interruptores, molduras de puertas, todos recreados mediante escaneo 3D y manufactura moderna.

We designed custom helmets with a vintage spirit, a jacket bearing the emblems of Ludus Vitalis, and I acquired a full set of leatherworking tools—instruments of precision and persistence. From them arose interiors marked by the human touch: dashboard, switches, door trims, all recreated via 3D scanning and modern fabrication.

Cada objeto, cada técnica aprendida, se convirtió en una extensión del proyecto original de mi padre: un diálogo entre la filosofía y la forma. Ludus Vitalis exploraba el origen de la vida; ahora, a través de esta restauración, explora el origen de la creación misma: la serena alegría de hacer algo con las manos, perfecto en su imperfección, intensamente vivo.

Each object, each learned technique, became an extension of my father's original project: a dialogue between philosophy and form. Ludus Vitalis probed the origin of life; now, through this restoration, it explores the origin of creation itself: the serene joy of making something with hands, perfect in its imperfection, intensely alive.
